Whereas that just like wasn't in the past which it shouldn't have been like , it was a band , it was great , whatever . But now you can actually artistically exercise that part of yourself , which must be , I think it's difficult for people to write songs even from 11 perspective , you know , like there was five of us in the room when we used to write sometimes and it was so hard to get us all to like have the same viewpoint and want to talk about the same thing . Um So in that sense , from a creative point , it is uh a lot more freeing for me .
Why do you think that it wasn't made for me ? I'm the musician guy who writes songs that are like kind of hits . And I thought that I was just through my own manipulation of the thing was an , a lister and I was going to , I'm an A , I'm an , a list celebrity .
And now where I am now , the greatest thing is that any idea that I have , I can do any idea that I have . I feel like if there was a song idea that I had for any musician in the world , I'd have a pretty good chance of them , at least listening to it . And that's really interesting to me that , that , to me is the greatest thing is like the songs I already have that I'll take for the rest of my life .
I literally have a song about my dad on my album and it was sort of uncomfortable because first time I played it for him , we were in a big label meeting with like 30 people and I wanted everyone to know that it was about my dad because it's quite a beautiful song . I kind of am at a place where I'm like , it's OK to write a song that maybe is like negative because this is like a sliver of my experience with my dad and he actually took it well , he liked it . He was like , it's beautiful .
So that plays a big , big part , love , love . Um You've said in the past that you want to write songs about men the way that they write songs about women , which I'm like . Hallelujah .
